I basically learned about that part of England just because of this band " Bearpark what a place, this may sound soft but I, sometimes think you've got a face" - Prefab Sprout, town near Langley Park (" None of it adds up, no it doesn't weigh a thing, and it doesn't buy you beer - from Langley Park to Memphis") near Newcastle. My favorite in terms of "first exposure/how long it took to put two and two together" I think I indirectly learned the names of more places from my connection with music than any other resource, regardless of lyric or research. which happened to be when I was transitioning to albums, not songs. I grew up pretty sheltered/rural America, and I left high school when I was 15 - knew plenty of US geography, but not much past that honestly.
